Ultimately all life depends on her, she is the force of creation and destruction. Earth supports the whole ecosystem, the sky, the mountains, the trees, the seas and rivers, animals and humans she nurtures and heals all. A cycle that is maintained steadfast: birth, death, and rebirth. They observed and witnessed the plants and animals being born on the earth’s surface, multiplying and finally returning to her, only to come back again through regeneration. The ancients, who had more direct contact and a greater relationship with nature viewed the earth as this gigantic female being who gives birth and continuously creates life. The Early Divine Feminine: Gaia in Ancient Greek Mythology Goddess Tellus relief, Ara Pacis, circa 13- 9 BCE, via Wikimedia Commonsįor our ancestors, the embodiment of the divine feminine was the Earth itself. Today most of the major religions of the world: Islam, Christianity, and Judaism, have a male God, and the only thing that testifies to the existence of a completely different world that celebrates the sacred female comes from the evidence of ancient artefacts from the distant past. The Mother Goddess, often known as Mother Earth, is a matriarchal archetype represented frequently in ancient art and found in various mythologies around the world. For the most part, these societies were matriarchal and developed peaceful cultures, with no fortification up until the appearance of the warrior societies. Women had a significant role and acted as priestesses and possibly religious leaders. Societies were structured and operated around these Goddess religions and they were ruled by a collective of priestesses who were devoted to ritual. We find the Goddess religion in many parts of the ancient world long before patriarchal religions took over. In many ancient societies, the nurturing nature of the divine feminine was associated with the concepts of fertility and creation and took the shape of the Great Mother Goddess. *Everything is a custom / specialized order and for this reason I cannot accept returns sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. From the depths of history, the divine feminine was considered sacred and was worshipped as the matrix of creation. So essentially this print does not exist until you order it. *I outsource my printing to a (print on demand) company. My personal favorite thing about matte paper is that you won't leave your fingerprints all over the image while trying to frame it! This art print in on a nice thick matte paper that is museum quality leaving you with a nice flat finish with beautiful deep velvety blacks. Talk about divine intervention when you look at the placement of the knot that fell out perfectly to be the belly button, I could not have planned that more perfectly even if I had tried to. I left the figure itself unpainted in order to let the natural woodgrain become her skin tone. The original of this piece of art was done on a 30x40 inch piece of plywood - I sketched out figure of the woman and the flowers and then proceeded to use watercolor paints to color it in. The painting is about the current rise / growth of feminine energy currently taking place on this planet which we have needed for a long time in order to balance out the male dominant hierarchy that has been going on more or less since the beginning of time. I call this piece of art, "Growth - The Divine Feminine"
